The Port Douglas Daintree Tourism Inc (PDDT) was
officially established in 1989, as a result of the Australian Pilot
Strike that literally crippled Tropical North Queensland Tourism.
For the benefit of the tourism industry and the community at large,
a co-operative and co-ordinated marketing strategy needed to
implemented and the LTO (Local Tourism Organisation) was born.
Today, theis run by an elected committee of voluntary
members led by a Chairman and 3 full time staff.
The PDDT Mission Statement is “To be a leading partner in the
marketing of economically and environmentally sustainable tourism in
the Douglas Shire”.Port Douglas
Daintree Tourism is a member based organisation deriving financial
support from the membership fee structure and the Area Promotion
Special Charge collected by the Douglas Shire Council.
Membership support is vital to ensure that the region remains
competitive with other Queensland, Australian and overseas
destinations.
Membership is an investment in your own business as well as
in the economic interest of the Douglas Shire area as a whole.
Tourism is the number one industry and largest single employer
within the Douglas Shire.

The Association’s role as the Destination Marketing body is to work
behind the scenes to promote the region and the products of it’s
members. The body is an information source and this internet site
has been built to broaden knowledge of the destination. As an LTO,
the PDDT attends trade and consumer shows both domestically and
overseas, hosts media and trade familiarisations in the region, acts
as an information source via email, web and phone to service visitor
queries, produces a monthly newsletter, produces and distributes
promotional material and organises co-operative marketing campaigns
with members.
Theworks closely with the following bodies and has a
partnership agreement in place with the Douglas Shire Council and
also Tourism Tropical North Queensland as the Regional Tourism
Organisation.
