Cape Trib Exotic Fruit Farm at Cape Tribulation offers two eco-certified ecotourism products: a Bed and Breakfast with two private cottages on the edge of World Heritage Rainforest; and an Exotic Fruit Tasting and Farm Tour, every day at 2 pm.
The cottages are high set, Queenslander style cottages with large verandahs, located adjacent to the creek and the rainforest, which enables cooling breezes without the need for air conditioning. The cottages run on solar power. The property features privately owned World Heritage Rainforest with walking trails, and is adjacent to Daintree National Park. Breakfast is based around farm produce, including a tropical fruit platter.
The orchard is a certified organic farm, and the main commercial crop is Mangosteens. There are over 2000 fruit trees and more than 150 species, from Borneo, the Amazon, and the Caribbean. The fruit on the tasting tour is REALLY unusual, and comes in all shapes and sizes, weird colours and textures, and with strange names like Chocolate Pudding Fruit, and Lemon Meringue Pie.
The tasting is MUCH MORE THAN JUST A PLATE OF FRUIT. It is a professional and entertaining presentation, given by very knowledgeable guides, with a focus on learning about the fruit: how it grows, how to prepare and eat it. The tour lasts 90 minutes, including an orchard walk.
The menu is constantly changing, but there are ALWAYS TEN fruit on the menu. Cape Tribulation is the only place in Australia where you can find and taste many of these fruit. |
