Having a healthy lifestyle is a great excuse to go on holiday and take part in sporting events. Port Douglas is a perfect location, with the calm waters of Four Mile Beach to swim in, a long beach to run along and a region that is so visually stunning, you will want to get up close and personal with it. Take your pick from an adventure festival, sailing regattas, triathlons, marathons, rugby and outrigging races. It’s all here, just check out our events calendar!

Exemplar Clipper Cup

Race the winds in paradise and get into the action sailing event of the Port Douglas Carnivale with the annual Exemplar Clipper Cup Regatta. This is the flagship event of the Port Douglas Yacht Club held over four days off the coast of Port Douglas as an open class, six race series regatta in 3 divisions, catering for monohulls, multihulls and cruisers.

Day sailors, cruisers, trailer sailers and sports boats are all catered for, all with a chance at staking their claim for the prestigious Clipper Cup. Performance based handicaps are allocated to each competitor to create a level of competition that rewards the best performing crew on the day. This regatta is the best fun in the tropical sun.

Cairns Airport Adventure Festival

The festival features 10 jam-packed days of events including four events held in Port Douglas. The Coral Coast Triathlon is Australia’s oldest triathlon, which starts and finishes in Port Douglas with a course featuring the calm waters and firm sand of Four Mile Beach.

The iconic RRR Mountain Bike Challenge, the longest running ‘point to point’ race in Australia that has run consecutively for 22 years. It is a visually spectacular race, with three diverse terrains (Rural, Rainforest & Reef) encountered and dominated, with a great downhill section.

The Great Barrier Reef Ocean Challenge is Australia’s biggest and newest downwind iron ocean race. The challenge is a 40km awesome surf leg along the stunning North Queensland coastline, heading north with the wind, from Palm Cove to Port Douglas. Test yourself against the elements and some of Australia’s best outrigger and ski paddlers in a race where just finishing is an achievement.

The pinnacle event of the festival is the ‘Cairns Airport IRONMAN Cairns‘ triathlon, which features a bike course that travels the length of the scenic coastal road between Cairns and Port Douglas before cycling through the seaside village.
